Outside Sales Associate Position - Upstate New York Region

Job Title: Sales Associate (Wholesale)

Reports To:  Director of Sales and Marketing

Job Summary:

The core responsibilities of the Sales Associate are to provide excellent customer service to dealers and contractors throughout assigned territory.  The sales associate will be responsible for developing a sales strategy to build new and expand current customer relationships. The sales associate should be a motivated self-starter with superior communication, presentation, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Laser focus should center around customer satisfaction by being knowledgeable, informative, and enthusiastic about products and services offered.  The sales associate will do an outstanding job at maintaining and fostering good long-term relationships with their customers and suppliers. The sales associate has a strong understanding of the sales processes, excels at generating leads, evaluates customer’s needs, and identifies practical solutions to meet the customer demands. The successful sales associate will also be responsible for providing excellent training and educational opportunities (including product demonstrations/installations) to contractors and dealer customers on sales products.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Promotes/sells/secures orders from existing and prospective customers (dealers/contractors) through a relationship-based approach
  • Identify and pursue sales leads, prospective new dealers, and move them through the sales pipeline from qualification to customer completion stage
  • Demonstrates/trains on products and services to existing/potential customers (dealers/contractors) and assists them in selecting them in selecting those best suited to their needs
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains business relationships with current customers and prospective customers in the assigned territory/market segment to generate new business for SHS Distributors products/services
  • Makes telephone calls, in-person visits and presentations to existing and prospective customers
  • Researches/sources for developing prospective customers and for information to determine their buying potential
  • Develops clear and effective written proposals/quotations for current and prospective customers
  • Expedites the resolution of customer problems and complaints
  • Coordinates sales effort with marketing and sales manager, management, logistics, accounting, and other technical team members
  • Analyzes the territory/market’s potential and determines the value of existing and prospective customer’s value to SHS Distributors
  • Creates and manages a customer value plan provided from marketing and sales manager for existing customers highlighting profile, share and value opportunities
  • Identifies advantages and compares hardscape dealer’s various products and services offered
  • Plans and organizes personal sales strategy by maximizing the return on time investment for the territory
  • Supplies management with oral and written reports on customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new products and services quarterly (every 3 months)
  • Keeps abreast of product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising, and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with marketing and technical service areas
  • Participates in trade shows and conventions
  • Initiate outgoing cold calling and emailing to potential dealers, schedule in-person sales appointments, and follow up on client requests for information
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing customers
  • Qualify prospective customers quickly by fact-finding to identify decision-makers, pain points, competition, budget, timeline, and other potential obstacles
  • Create a competitive analysis, identify industry and product trends, and position our brand as the clear and obvious choice
  • Show our solution to prospects with sales presentations, negotiate deals, and obtain sales contract signatures
  • Ability to convert prospective buyers to loyal customers
  • Initiate outbound efforts (call, text, email) each day to prospects
  • Respond in timely manner to all leads
  • Collaborate with the team on improving prospecting strategies
  • Follow industry trends to identify new opportunities for potential sales
  • Ability to recommend marketing strategies to target a specific region or demographic
  • Generate weekly dealer visits and contractor progress reports
  • Meet or surpass the monthly quota for sold business and lead requirements/ revenue-generating activities
  • Answer phone calls and provide professional customer service by being knowledgeable of products and services offered by SHS Distributors
  • Prioritize product knowledge by taking advantage of seminar/classes offered by manufacturers and in-the-house training provided by SHS Distributors and Sauders Hardscape Supply
  • Create workorders and proposals as requested by customers, then follow through until the order is complete.
  • Research and analyze product trends and customer demand based on available market information
  • Manage customer accounts designated to his/her care by taking care of their order request as well as keeping them informed timely about product availability
  • Identify and contact new potential contractors to increase our customer base
  • Understand market competition and how to position SHS Distributors as the preferred choice for quality and service
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience (not required):

  • 2+ years of sales, sales training or a combination of education and experience that illustrates a proven track record in this field

Physical Requirements:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Excellent physical fitness and stamina with the ability to lift up to a maximum of 100 pounds to train and educate contractors/dealers on SHS Distributors products through installations in various outside weather conditions
  • Basic computer skills required
